22nd Meeting of the Board of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Convened in Dushanbe


Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, 28 November 2022 — The 22nd meeting of the Board of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Ziyozoda Sulaymon Rizo.

The meeting was attended by members of the IFAS Board, including Serikkali Brekeshev, Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Shukhrat Ganiev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Ziyozoda Sulaymon Rizo, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan; Annageldi Yazmyradov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan; as well as other official representatives of the founding states of IFAS, members of the IFAS Executive Committee, representatives of the embassies of Central Asian countries accredited in Tajikistan, and representatives of IFAS structural divisions.

Representatives of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Tajikistan also participated in the meeting in person as observers.

IFAS Board Decisions 2022

1. Preparation for the meeting of the Council of Heads of State-Founders of IFAS, to be held in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, on 14-15 September 2023;

2. Organization and conduct of commemorative events marking the 30th anniversary of IFAS;

3. Progress in the implementation of the Fourth Aral Sea Basin Programme (ASBP-4);

4. The updated Work Plan of the IFAS Executive Committee for the period of Tajikistan’s chairmanship;

5. Activities of the Working Group on improving the organizational structure and the legal and regulatory framework of IFAS;

6. Preparations for the United Nations Water Conference to be held in March 2023 in New York, including the agreed text of the Joint Statement of Central Asian States for the Conference;

7. Outcomes of participation in the 9th World Water Forum and the Second High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028”;

8. Introduction of modern equipment for water accounting and monitoring in the Amu Darya and Syr Darya river basins;

9. The agenda for the next meeting of the IFAS Board.
