Chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan in the ICSD

During its chairmanship, the following meetings of the Commission were held:

24th ICSD Meeting was held in Dushanbe (June 2013), during which the report on the activities of the ICSD during Kazakhstan’s chairmanship was presented; information was provided on enhancing the effectiveness of the implementation of the Regional Environmental Action Plan for Central Asia (REAP) within the framework of the post-Rio+20 process; the results of the work of international organizations in the region were reviewed; and Kyrgyzstan shared information on its efforts to integrate the principles of sustainable development and the green economy into national development programs.

25th ICSD Meeting was held in Dushanbe (April 2014), during which the proposal of UNECE was adopted to develop a Roadmap listing short- and medium-term measures to address the challenges outlined in the recommendations of the Assessment Study on Strengthening the Institutional and Legal Framework for Improving Subregional Cooperation on environmental protection for sustainable development within the framework of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development.

26th ICSD Meeting was held in Dushanbe (November 2014), during which the finalization of the "Programme (formerly the "Roadmap") for the Implementation of the Recommendations on Strengthening the Institutional and Legal Framework for Regional Cooperation in Environmental Protection within the Mandate of the ICSD" was noted; information was provided by Central Asian countries on the progress of implementing green economy principles at the national level, as well as by the UNEP Regional Office for Europe on the prospects for cooperation on green economy issues in Central Asian countries; it was decided to conduct consultations with the International Center for Environmental Technologies (ICET) under UNEP on waste management and the potential implementation of a regional project; information was presented by the World Bank on the preparation for the implementation of the "Central Asia Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Programme"; consultations were mandated with the Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) regarding the implementation of the "Economics of Land Degradation in Central Asia: Approaches and Planned Activities" process; the Central Asia Programme of the WWF provided information on the "CIS Ecological Network" conference and a meeting on the development of national biodiversity conservation strategies and action plans; UNECE proposed the participation of the ICSD in the Ministerial Conference on the Environment, to be held in Batumi in June 2016, within the framework of the "Environment for Europe" process, to present issues related to green economy development and air quality in Central Asia; consultations were mandated with UNECE to develop a concept for a regional project proposal on the REAP priority area of "water pollution," taking into account previously developed drafts of the Regulation and Terms of Reference for the Working Group, and to agree on this concept with Central Asian countries for submission at the next ICSD meeting.
