Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, 26 November 2024 – A Regional Conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (ICSD) was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The event provided a key platform for exchanging expertise and strengthening collaboration between national and international partners in the fields of environmental protection and sustainable development.
The conference gathered representatives from environmental ministries and agencies, as well as experts from the agricultural, water, energy, economic, and other sectors of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Development partners, including international organizations such as GIZ, OSCE, and ADB, alongside scientific institutions, civil society, and the private sector, also participated.
Key topics of discussion included regional cooperation among Central Asian countries on sustainable development and environmental protection. Particular attention was paid to the achievements of ICSD and its Scientific Information Centers over the past 30 years, including transboundary projects, solutions to environmental challenges, and advancements in environmental management. Development partners presented initiatives focused on transboundary cooperation, financing through the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and the role of civil society in sustainable development. These discussions emphasized the importance of uniting efforts among countries and international organizations to achieve shared environmental and socio-economic goals.
The conference marked a significant milestone in promoting regional cooperation in Central Asia. Participants reaffirmed the importance of partnerships in addressing environmental challenges and achieving sustainable development. Special focus was given to implementing the Regional Environmental Programme for Sustainable Development (REP4SD), advancing transboundary initiatives, and strengthening the role of civil society.
