Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, 17 April 2025 – A representative of the Scientific Information Centre of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (SIC ICSD) participated in the national stakeholder consultations on climate-resilient technologies in the sectors of agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU), as well as the engagement of the private sector in climate adaptation and mitigation actions. The event was held within the framework of the joint project of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) titled “Enhancing Turkmenistan’s Capacity to Access Climate Finance through Capacity Building and Strategic Frameworks.”
The consultations brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives of government agencies, academic and educational institutions, the private sector, and banking and insurance entities. The discussions focused on two priority areas: identifying climate-resilient technologies aligned with national development goals and needs, and creating an enabling environment to attract private sector investment into climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.

Participants discussed existing barriers, legal and institutional frameworks, and proposed instruments to stimulate private sector engagement, including tax incentives, concessional lending, insurance schemes, and public-private partnership models. Group work sessions resulted in preliminary proposals for an investment roadmap and a climate finance tracking system, which will inform future strategic recommendations.
The participation of SIC ICSD in the consultations underscores the importance of institutional and scientific cooperation to enhance climate resilience across Central Asia. The outcomes of the event will contribute to the implementation of the Regional Environmental Programme for Sustainable Development in Central Asia, particularly in the areas of climate action, sustainable land use, and mobilization of finance in support of SDG 13.
