SIC ICSD Representative participated in the 64-th IPCC Session in Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand, 24-27 March 2026 — A representative of the Scientific-Information Centre of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (SIC ICSD) participated in the 64th Plenary Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), held at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

The session brought together approximately 300 delegates representing IPCC member governments and observer organizations from around the world. The primary objective of the meeting was to advance the Panel’s work under its Seventh Assessment Cycle (AR7).

During the four-day session, participants considered the review of the Principles and Procedures governing the work of the IPCC. These documents are reviewed every five years and are essential for ensuring the preparation of comprehensive, objective, transparent and scientifically robust assessments of climate change. It was agreed that consideration of this matter would continue at future sessions.

The Plenary also discussed the timeline for the preparation of the Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). While no final decision was taken, member governments expressed their intention to reach agreement on the timeline at the next session.

In addition, the Panel approved the work programme of the Task Group on Data Support for Climate Change Assessments.

The 64th session also marked the final Plenary for IPCC Secretary Abdalah Mokssit, who has led the Secretariat over the past decade. Participants expressed their appreciation for his strong commitment and significant contributions to the work of the Panel.
