Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, 6–10 October 2025 — Representatives of the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (SIC ICSD), as well as representatives of the CBIT Project in Turkmenistan, took part in the Regional Practical Training Workshop on “Enhancing Capacity for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Development and Policy Assessment in the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) Sector.” The event placed particular emphasis on approaches to assessing the impact of policies in the LULUCF sector.
The main objective of the training was to strengthen the capacities of members of the ReCATH Technical Working Group (TWG), national inventory teams, and sectoral experts. During the training, participants gained knowledge and practical skills necessary for assessing GHG emissions and removals in the LULUCF sector, as well as for designing and implementing mitigation measures addressing climate change. The training aimed to enhance the ability of participating countries to collect and prepare activity data, monitor land-use changes, and improve the quality of national GHG inventories. This will enable countries to provide more accurate information for the preparation and implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The workshop covered topics such as land-use monitoring, land classification and change detection, methodologies for estimating emissions and removals in forest and agricultural lands, and reporting in the LULUCF sector within the framework of the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF). Participants also examined principles and approaches for evaluating emission reductions resulting from the implementation of national policies, plans, and projects, as well as tools used for assessing emission reductions within Policies and Measures (PaMs) in the LULUCF sector.
The event brought together participants from all Central Asian countries, including representatives of relevant government agencies, research institutions, and international organizations. The training was conducted in an in-person format, which facilitated active discussions, experience sharing, and hands-on exercises.
