Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, 22 February 2022 — A meeting of the Board of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was held.
The meeting was attended by members of the IFAS Board, including Roman Sklyar, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan (participating online); Shukhrat Ganiev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan (participating online); Ziyozoda Sulaimon Rizo, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan; and Guyzgeldi Bayjanov, Chairman of the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan. The meeting was also attended by other official representatives of the founding states of IFAS, members of the IFAS Executive Committee, representatives of the embassies of Central Asian countries accredited in Tajikistan, as well as representatives of IFAS structural divisions.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic also participated in the meeting online, while representatives of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Tajikistan attended in person as observers.

During the meeting, participants discussed key issues on the regional agenda, including the activities of the IFAS Executive Committee during Tajikistan’s chairmanship; progress in the implementation of projects under the Aral Sea Basin Programme (ASBP-4); achievements of the Working Group on improving the organizational structure and the legal and regulatory framework of IFAS; and preparations of Central Asian countries for the 9th World Water Forum. The meeting also addressed IFAS participation in the Second High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028,” scheduled for 6-9 June 2022 in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan. In addition, the Regional Environmental Programme for Sustainable Development in Central Asia was approved.

The meeting of the IFAS Board concluded with the signing ceremony of the Board’s decisions on the above-mentioned agenda items.
