This landmark session, hosted by China for the first time, brought together over 400 delegates from 195 member countries, observer organizations, and international experts to advance the critical work on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). Key discussions included draft frameworks for contributions from the three Working Groups, addressing the physical science basis of climate change, impacts and adaptation strategies, and mitigation efforts. The session also reviewed methodologies for carbon dioxide removal technologies, as well as carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
The participation of representatives from SIC ICSD highlighted Central Asia's commitment to global climate science and policy. Their engagement demonstrated regional efforts to integrate Sustainable Development Goals with climate resilience strategies.
Delegates emphasized the urgent need for science-based policymaking as global temperatures continue to rise, with 2024 recorded as the hottest year in modern history. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to addressing climate tipping points and developing actionable solutions for a sustainable future.
