Public Council

The Public Council under the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development of Central Asia (hereinafter – the Public Council) is a community of civil society representatives from the countries of Central Asia, united on a voluntary basis to support the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development of Central Asia (ICSD) in addressing issues related to environmental protection and sustainable development in the region.

Functions of the Public Council:

  • Engaging civil society in discussions on environmental issues, sustainable development in Central Asia, and ICSD decision-making processes, as well as participation in the development and implementation of regional and transboundary programmes and projects;
  • Promoting education for sustainable development, strengthening the capacity and qualifications of civil society representatives, and conducting awareness-raising activities;
  • Developing and ensuring the effective use of ICSD information resources, as well as enhancing the exchange of environmental information among regional and national networks and organizations;
  • Conducting public monitoring of the implementation of ICSD decisions.

Activities of the Public Council:

The Secretariat serves as the executive body, elected from representatives of the countries of the region. It coordinates the activities of the Public Council, ensures cooperation with ICSD and partners, and supports organizational work and document preparation.

To implement priority areas, commissions, expert groups, and working groups are established to develop recommendations and project proposals. The activities of the Public Council are carried out on the basis of approved plans, ensuring a systematic and consistent approach to addressing environmental and sustainable development challenges in the region.
